Created Issue: Rating on Versions [4173]

Hi, I like your project but am having an issue when I have versions in my list. The versions shows the rating per version but the comments are the most recent comment. Can this be fixed?

Hi,

This should be ok but my rating tool loses of its interest since their is an out of the box solution 2010. Otherwise, it should be compliant. The last time I tried it, it was 90% ok. The only thing that didn't work was the custom field type (the rendering wasn't ok) but I think it was a bug of the BETA so it should be fine with the RTM.

Hi,

I have created a publishing site and added the rating site column to the document library.Whenever I upload a document I get a property window which allow me to rate the document.But when I rate it is not getting reflected in the site.When I change the rating setting "Allow users to rate this item" to "Yes" an error is displayed. Should we activate any other features in the site collection? I could not find any feature related to rating.

Hello. I downloaded and installed Forms Designer. It worked great...one time only. Oh, I can get the designer to come up just fine, but when I hit "Submit" to save the design and go into my list, it's still in the default SP layout. Here's what I'm doing:

Make sure Forms Designer is activated in site collection.
Create a custom list
Turn Manage Content Types on
Change "All Groups" to "Modifiable Forms" as the group, then select "Modifiable Item"
Set Modifiable Item as default by deleting "Item" content type
Create Columns, one by one, from scratch.
Go to the default view, select Actions - Design Form
Lay out my fields the way I want them on the grid and click "Submit", then "Close"
At the view screen, click "New" arrow. "Modifiable Item" shows up in the dropdown.
The form opens

And when the form opens, it's always in the default SharePoint layout, not in the format I laid out Any suggestions would be helpful; thanks.

What kind of permission allows you to rate the item? (I assume the contribute?).

Is there a way to define special group that can rate the item>

Hi,

I tried the AJAX look-up solution today. It fails with the error that it cannot find the list specified. I think that's because I deployed the column as a site column. The list I chose isn't on the same web as where the column is used. Is it possible to make this column work cross-web / cross-site?

Hi, great rating tool. Just one thing I'm missing or maybe just don't find....

While I do an export of the item rating into Excel I see ratings (which is great) but no comments.
Is there a simple way to include the comments into the XLS (XLSX) export?
If not, is there any other way to mass download the comments linked to the item ?

Hi,

So you probably have the exact same error message if you try to do something else than changing the content type, isn't it?

If you google a bit on your error message, you'll find thousands of results explaining you the possible causes.

Hi,

By default you can't and it's a bit dangerous to set a default value because you could get an erroneous resulting average if people don't pay attention. But I see what you mean. The best would probably be to prevent users from submitting the page if they've not chosen a rating value.

However, you'll need to customize the code for that.

Thanks! Here are the answers:

1) The rating is always the average of all the ratings for a given list item. In the case of a discussion board, you can rate the discussion itself or its replies individually. If the persons who reply rate their own reply, of course, this won't be counted for the average of the discussion. If you want an average rating for the discussion, they need to both rate the discussion and not their reply.

2) Nothing in the solution gives you this possibility. However, you could still customize it since you've got the source code :).

I created a ratable discussion board, enter rating and comment functions are nice.

1. Rating calculation

But I have 2 questions, current rating is not average rating, it is just for individual reply?

For example:

I create a Discussion A, and leave the rating blank

John replies Discussion A and gives 3 stars

Mary replies Discussion A and gives 2 stars

I want Discussion A rating be (3+2)/2 -> result is 3 star for Discussion A

But current rating, only display the first entry/discussion in the subject view, therefore the rating is blank in this case.

I did something wrong or this is normal/correct.

2. Default value for the rating

Set the default value for the rating, for example: 3 stars

Is it possible?

OK, seems to be a learning curve for me....
Now as I searched within earlier discussion on this site, I noticed that I had to activate the Document Rating within the Site Collection Features and NOT within CA as it's even not listed there.
What I saw so far: most of the questions/issues were related to CA vs. Site Colelctions...

So after activating Document Rating within the Site Collection > Site Actions > Site Collection Features, I saw immediately the Site Content Types as requested.

Finally, nothing was wrong, just a lack of knowledge ;-)

Hi, I finally could deploy the Document Rating for Moss but got not a single contect type in MOSS.

Rating System

Document Rating
Event Rating
Issue Rating
Item Rating
Link Rating
Picture Rating

None of those appear.

Any help or idea is appreciated.

I could fix by Googling around. Just added the -force paramter and was good.
( Stsadm –o deploysolution –name HighLightMOSS>wsp –allowgacdeployment –immediate –url http://testrooms.company.net –force )

Anyway, deployemnt worked but I didn't get the content type into sharepoint.

I'd expected the Rating System content Type....nothing there. I openend a new thread as this is different.
